About the big event: Around the Houses

The big event! The city is transformed over night from into a racetrack. Watch 150 classic cars turn over 15,000 heads.

The main event is day two of the Albany Classic. In the early hours of the morning the centre of Albany is converted to a motorsport circuit by a great bunch of volunteers. The transformation is a work of art, complete with Armco barriers and a state of the art timing system.

Spectators will see everything from pre war specials with wooden or wire spoke wheels to mighty Aussie V8’s. See British and Italian sports cars, exotic open wheeler racers from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, touring cars from Morris minor to Ford Falcon and a list of other wonderful machinery dating back to the 1920s! Take a gander at our photo gallery.

Local characters and business also put on their own show! The Festival coincides with the excitement at the heart of the race track along York Street.

For the past 26 years, a group of Albany residents, with assistance from The City of Albany (and its predecessor) and The Vintage Sports Car Club of WA (Inc), have presented the Albany Classic Motor Event around the streets of Albany. The event is a commemoration of “Round-the-houses” motor racing which began in Albany, Western Australia in 1936. Over the years this event has grown to reach iconic status, locally, nationally and internationally. The event brings a flood of visitors to Albany each year on the June long weekend. Besides the benefits devolving directly from the visitors, many local charitable groups use their participation in the event to raise funds for their other activities in the Albany region.
